Dr. Farid Taheri is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Dalhousie University.

Dr. Taheri worked in industry as a professional engineer for eight years before joining the university in January of 1994. His career in composites started in 1988, when he joined the then newly formed Advanced Material Engineering Centre (AMEC), under the mentorship of Dick Hadcock of Grumman Aerospace. Dr. Taheri was directly responsible for solving specialized advanced materials engineering problems with the aid of computational tools, as well as experimental mechanics. Since then, he has worked on several advanced materials related projects commissioned by prestigious entities such as the Canadian Space Agency, various Defence Research Laboratories as well as local and national manufacturers. Dr. Taheri has over 50 publications in reputable refereed international journals and conference proceedings, and 35 other conference proceedings and federal government reports.

Dr. Taheri's current research interests include computational modelling (with particular emphasis on finite element method), and experimental characterization of response and behaviour of structures and materials and their processes, particularly those of advanced reinforced plastic composites; fracture mechanics and fatigue, structural stability, impact and pulse buckling. He is currently involved in several industrially funded projects where vibrational induced strains are characterized with piezoelectric sensors.
