Dr. Gordon Sparks is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He holds a B.Sc. (University of Alberta) 1967, M.Sc. (University of California, Berkeley) 1969, and a Ph.D. (University of California, Berkeley) 1971. Dr. Sparks has over 25 years experience in contract research and consulting in the area of transportation engineering, engineering economics and decision analysis. In addition to his teaching and research at the University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Sparks is Managing Partner, R&D, Vemax Management Inc., a Saskatoon-based company with offices in Edmonton and Winnipeg as well as Sydney and Melbourne, Australia.

Typical projects Include:

• The over-the-road safety experience of A and C-trains in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Oregon for the Western Highway Institute.

• The commercialization prospects for steel-free bridge decks and stressed log bridges for the Ministry of Transportation in Ontario.

• Evaluation of the type, quality and quantity of data being collected by the Canadian Long Term Pavement Program relative to the long term objectives of the Canadian Strategic Highway Research Program.

• Design of a Bayesian Statistical Software system for the C-LTPP data for the Canadian Strategic Highway Research Program.

• Transportation Innovation Centre, a facility using an environmentally controlled accelerated loading Test Track in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Research Council and Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation.

Dr. Sparks is a Certified Management Consultant, Registered Community Planner, and Member of Board, Canadian Environmental Technology Advancement Corporation - West and CAA Saskatchewan.
