Mr. Guy Richard graduated from the Séminaire de St-Jean College in Québec City in 1964, then went on to obtain a degree in Engineering at the École polytechnique de l’Université de Montréal in 1968 and a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering in 1969.
Mr. Richard undertook three years of doctoral studies, but was unable to obtain his degree for family reasons. He took on a full-time position as Field Engineer at Dominion Bridge in 1972 and became Chief Engineer at ECAN, a subsidiary of Dominion Bridge in Québec City, in 1976. In 1978, he went to work for the provincial government as head of the Logging Roads Branch of the Department of Forestry, building logging roads and bridges. In 1986, he moved to the Québec Department of Transportation to become Head of Bridge Design and in 1992, was named Director of Stuctures for that Department.
Mr. Richard joined ISIS Canada as a member of the Board at the beginning of 1998 and has focused his attention on bridge rehabilitation and construction using fibre-reinforced materials because of their durability. ISIS Canada has conducted many experiments on Québec's bridges, and many more are planned.
