Dr. Lloyd McGinnis is a Manitoban with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Manitoba and an M.Sc. degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology. In 2000, he was granted an Honourary Degree of Doctor of Science by the University of Manitoba. In 2003 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. He is a Professional Engineer with experience from the Arctic to the tropics, and has developed a global reputation for his engineering accomplishments. For three years he served in Tanzania, East Africa, as an advisor to the government, and thereafter spent 25 years directing engineering projects throughout Africa and Asia. For many years he was Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Wardrop Engineering.

Dr. McGinnis has received numerous honours and awards, including:

  • The Global Citizen Award by the United Nations
  • The prestigious “Gold Medal Award” as Canada’s Outstanding Engineer by CCPE
  • Honourary Doctorate Degree in Science from the University of Manitoba
  • First recipient of an Honourary Diploma award, granted by Red River College
  • The Peter D. Curry Chancellor’s Award by the University of Manitoba
  • The Julian C. Smith Memorial Award by the Engineering Institute of Canada
  • Sustainable Development Award of Excellence for the Province of Manitoba
  • Commemorative Medal for 125th Anniversary of Confederation of Canada
  • Officer of the Order of Canada

In his community life, he has been Chairman or President of:

  • Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce
  • Canadian Chamber of Commerce
  • Rotary Club of Winnipeg
  • Rotary International World Community Service for District 555
  • The Manitoba Club
  • St. Charles Golf and Country Club
  • Red River College

Dr. McGinnis is the Founding Chair of:

  • Winnipeg Business Development Corporation
  • Canada/Asian Business Council (for Pacific Rim countries trade initiatives)
  • International Institute for Sustainable Development (a Winnipeg-based research centre, with a global mandate for environmental issues)
  • ISIS Canada Research Network (which conducts research into Intelligent Sensing for Innovative Structures, such as “smart” bridges)
  • Founding Member of Winnipeg’s “CentreVenture” development initiative

In addition, he has served on:

  • Canada/USA Business Relations Council
  • The Prime Minister's National Advisory Board on Science and Technology
  • Science Council of Canada
  • National Task Force on the Environment and Economy
  • Delegation to Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • National Steering Committee for Innovation in Canadian Construction

At the present time, Dr. McGinnis is:
