Ralston MacDonnell is Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ISIS Canada Network of Centers of Excellence.  He is President of MacDonnell Group Consulting Ltd., a group of engineering and management consulting companies with a track record of support for leading technology development and fostering economic growth in Canada.  With the collaboration of institutions, government and other private sector partners, Mr. MacDonnell’s companies pioneered the construction of the world’s first steel-free bridge deck.  He is a Professional Engineer who received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Saint Mary’s University, and Bachelor and Master’s Degrees from the Technical University of Nova Scotia.  He is a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal.

Mr. MacDonnell is Past President of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia, Past President of the Nova Scotia Design and Construction Institute,  and a past Director of the Nova Scotia Consulting Engineers Association.  He was a Vice-President of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, a Director of the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers and a Director of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada.

Mr. MacDonnell is an avid supporter of engineering and technology as instruments for economic development.  He was Chairman of the Nova Scotia Advanced Technologies Collegium, a director of the Nova Scotia Innovation Corporation (Innova Corp.), the Advisory Board of the Nova Scotia CAD/CAM Center, a founding member of the Canadian Advanced Composite Materials in Building and Structures Network, a member of the Board of Governors of the Technical University of Nova Scotia (DalTech), and a member of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Halifax Chamber of Commerce.  He is currently Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

Throughout his career, Mr. MacDonnell has consistently advocated and utilized advanced technologies to develop business and create wealth in the community
