Dr. Mark F. Green was born and raised in Belleville, Ontario and is a member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte. He obtained his B.Sc. degree from Queen's University (Kingston, Ontario) in 1987, where he won the Governor General’s Award as the top undergraduate student in the University. He then won a Commonwealth Scholarship to study at Cambridge University, U.K. He completed his Ph.D. in 1991 and returned to Queen’s as an NSERC Post-Doctoral Fellow. He was appointed to the Civil Engineering Department at Queen’s in 1993 as a Queen’s National Scholar.
His research interests include bridge-vehicle dynamics and applications of fibre reinforced polymers in concrete structures. He has published over 70 technical papers in these areas. Dr. Green is active in several technical societies and code committees. He is chair of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) Technical Subcommittee on Advanced Composite Materials, and co-chair of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) subcommittee 440-C. In 1997, he won the civil engineering departmental teaching award at Queen's University. He won the 1999 Pratley Award for the best Canadian paper on bridge engineering, and a Premier’s Research Excellence Award (PREA) in July 2000. He is a Project Leader in ISIS Canada and has served in the past as the Project Leader representative on the Board of Directors of ISIS Canada.
