Dr. Catalin Gheorghiu received his Ph.D. degree from the Université de Sherbrooke in 2003. In 2004 he joined the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba as an Assistant Professor. His research interests are in the area of structural health monitoring, fibre optic sensors, and composite materials in civil structures.

Dr. Gheorghiu is a member of the International Society for Structural Health Monitoring of Intelligent Infrastructures, Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, and a member of RILEM Technical Committee TC OFS on Optical Fiber Sensors for Civil Engineering Applications.
