T. Ivan Campbell, Ph.D., P.Eng.

Ivan Campbell is a Professor of Civil Engineering and former Head of Department at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario. He holds B.Sc. (1963), Ph.D. (1967) and D.Sc. (1989) degrees from the Queen's University of Belfast, N. Ireland. Prior to joining the faculty at Queen's, Kingston, in 1972, Dr. Campbell spent five years with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario where he was engaged in both design and research of bridge structures with particular interest in prestressed concrete structures. Dr. Campbell's research interest at Queen's, Kingston has been in prestressed concrete, primarily related to transportation structures such as highway and railway bridges, and guideways for transit systems. In recent years this work has been extended to utilization of advanced composite materials in prestressed concrete under the sponsorship of ISIS Canada. He served on the committee which developed the Ontario Highway Bridge Design Code (OHBDC) and is a member of Committee #8 (Concrete Structures) and Committee #11 (Joints and Bearings) of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC). He is a member of American Concrete Institute (ACI) Committees 343 (Concrete Bridge Design), 440 (Fibre Reinforced Polymer Reinforcement), and 554 (Bearing Systems), Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) Committee on FRP Composites, and Transportation Research Board (TRB) Subcommittee on Structure Movement Systems (A2C01(2) & A3C13(1). Dr. Campbell was elected a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering in 1989, and in 1995-96 was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Adelaide, Australia.
