Dr. Luke Bisby is an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario. He obtained his B.Eng. degree in Civil Engineering from McGill University in 1997, his Master’s degree, with a thesis entitled “Effects of Freeze-Thaw Cycling on Anchorage of FRP Sheets Bonded to Reinforced Concrete Beams” from Queen’s University in 1999, and his Ph.D., also from Queen’s University, in 2003 with a thesis entitled “Fire Behaviour of FRP-Reinforced or Confined Concrete”.

Dr. Bisby has been involved in the ISIS Canada Research Network since 1997, and has received numerous awards for his participation in various ISIS initiatives. As a graduate student, Dr. Bisby served as Co-founder and Chair of the ISIS Students’ Committee from 1999 to 2001, and as the student representative on the ISIS Educational Committee from 2001 to 2003. Upon his appointment as an Assistant Professor in 2003, Dr. Bisby was named as Project Leader for ISIS Project 4.1.5: Educational Committee Modules. More recently, Dr. Bisby has also become Project Leader for ISIS Project 2.3.12: FRP Wraps for Slender and/or Eccentrically-Loaded Reinforced Concrete Columns.

Dr. Bisby’s current research interests include the structural uses of fibre reinforced polymers and other advanced materials in civil engineering applications, with an emphasis on the effects of fire and thermal effects on structures and materials. Dr. Bisby also has ongoing research interests in sustainable building materials and systems and engineering pedagogy.
