Confederation Bridge Engineering Summit
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
August 19-22, 2007
The Confederation Bridge is celebrating 10 years of excellence. To acknowledge this milestone a Confederation Bridge Engineering Summit is being held in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, the 19th to 22nd of August 2007. The aim of this celebration is to share with the engineering community the experience gained in the design and management of a large project as well as the maintenance of a bridge under severe environmental conditions. This 2 day workshop includes invited speakers who were directly involved in the design, decision making, maintenance and the reason behind maintenance. We are also pleased to have, Jacques Combault, President of IABSE speaking about the Rion Antirion Bridge in Greece and Michel Virlogeux, Honorary President of fib speaking about The Millau Viaduct in France as our special lunch time speakers. The summit opens with a gala evening of entertainment.
Topics of discussion include bridge maintenance systems, high performance concrete, ice loading, and structural health monitoring

Protect 2007
Whistler, Canada
August 20-22, 2007
Recent catastrophic failures around the world have exposed numerous flaws in our understanding of performance of structures under extreme loads. The purpose of Protect 2007 is to bring experts from diverse backgrounds to exchange ideas on performance, protection and strengthening of structures under extreme loading events and to create a multi-disciplinary forum aimed at enhancing our understanding of the underlying complex issues and challenges. The Organizers hope that Protect 2007 will serve as a catalyst in initiating a meaningful dialogue between the various stakeholders, and will result in the development of innovative solutions based on a cross-fertilization of ideas. Come and be a part of this unique gathering.

5th International Conference on Advanced Composite Materials in Bridges and Structures (ACMBS-V)
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
September 22-24, 2008
The 5th International Conference on Advanced Composite Materials in Bridges and Structures, ACMBS-V, is organized under the auspices of the ACMBS Technical Committee of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) and is sponsored by the ISIS Canada Network of Centres of Excellence. The success of the four previous ACMBS conferences, the first held in Sherbrooke in 1992, the second in Montreal in 1996, the third in Ottawa in 2000, and the fourth in Calgary in 2004, has established this event as a premier forum for exchange of knowledge and experience with the use of advanced composites in bridges and other structures.
The objectives of the ACMBS-V Conference are to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of recent developments in the use of advanced composite materials (ACM) and fibre reinforced polymers (FRP) in bridges and other structures, and to provide an opportunity for national and international delegates from industrial, research and academic institutions to interact and share their knowledge, to learn about new and innovative technologies in the field, and to discuss future directions.
The ACMBS-IV Conference will deal with all aspects of research, applications and monitoring of advanced composite materials and fibre reinforced polymers in the design, construction and rehabilitation of bridges and other structures. Topics of the conference will include but are not limited to:
- Material behaviour including bond, durability, fatigue and long-term performance
- Fabrication, processing and testing methods
- Analysis and design
- Applications in structural concrete with or without prestressing
- Applications in wood, masonry and steel structures
- Strengthening and rehabilitation of structures
- Seismic performance and retrofit
- Structural health monitoring and intelligent sensing
- Fire resistance
- Structural shapes and fully composite systems
- Anchorage systems and connections
- Innovative structural systems
- Full-scale testing
- Field applications and case studies
- Codes and standards
- Sustainability and life-cycle cost
