Students Who Succeed

Attracting Excellence

As a sign of ISIS Canada's development, two recently hired professors - Dr. Robin Hutchinson at the University of Manitoba and Dr. Michèle Thériault at the Université de Sherbrooke - studied under ISIS Project Leaders. Both professors continue to be involved with ISIS Canada activities.

The cross-campus networking that occurs on a daily basis within ISIS Canada is particularly noteworthy because of the enriched experience it provides to everyone involved. The opportunity for students to work with highly qualified researchers, to access world-class research facilities, to collaborate with corporate personnel and to interface with great minds on a joint cause is a magnet for the scientific community. The calibre of students is evident in the list of academic achievements and in their demand as employees. There is currently a greater demand for participation in the Network than can be accommodated.

During the past year, there were 56 Masters and 41 Ph.D. students in the ISIS program. Since the inception of ISIS Canada in 1995, a total of 48 Masters and 13 Ph.D. theses have been completed. In addition, 32 Post-doctoral Fellows and 19 Research Associates have been engaged in ISIS research.

Women in Engineering Excellence

This year's $5,000 scholarship recipients are Natalie Rizkalla of Queen's University (Thesis Advisor, Dr. Ivan Campbell) and Christine Lacasse of the Université de Sherbrooke (Thesis Advisor, Dr. Kenneth Neale).

First Class Presenters

The ISIS Canada 4th Annual Conference once again included a competition of student presentations. It was a highlight for all who attended and cash prizes were awarded. The competition is just one way in which ISIS Canada fulfills its commitment to training highly qualified personnel. For each one of the six students who presented, it was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate professionalism.
