Annual Report 1998/1999

Pursuing a Mission

Our mission is to advance civil engineering to a world leadership position through the development and application of fibre-reinforced polymers (FRP) and integrated intelligent fibre optic sensing technologies, for the benefit of all Canadians through innovative and intelligent infrastructure.

Core values

Leading Edge Research (revolutionizing the design and construction of civil engineering structures)

Highly Qualified Personnel (offering multidisciplined experiences, academic achievements and marketable skills)

Networking and Partnerships (maximizing synergies and minimizing duplication and costs)

Technology Transfer (generating benefits and opportunities for Canadians working at home and abroad)

Efficient Management (fostering an action-oriented, business-like decision making process)

The Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) program is a forum to advance Canada’s position in the knowledge-based economy. By providing researchers with new opportunities to collaborate across disciplines and sectors, both nationally and internationally, the partnership investment in the NCE program complements the activities of Canada’s three granting councils in areas deemed to have potential for high economic and social benefits. The result - some of Canada’s most forward-looking research in areas designed to influence Canada’s future development. Canada’s three federal granting councils oversee and support the NCE initiative jointly with Industry Canada: Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the Medical Research Council (MRC).
